A late call for volunteers was made earlier this week for members to help bag and hand out the daffodil bulbs for the Saturday, October 19 event. The response was amazing!! At left is Martie Lincoln handing off a bag of bulbs in our drive-up delivery line. We gave away over 3000 bulbs! Thank you one and all!
The Wolfeboro Garden club has purchased 3,000 daffodil bulbs to give away at no cost to the residents of Wolfeboro. Daffodils are easy to plant,
naturalize beautifully, and will bloom each spring for many years to come. Each gift bag (one per household) will include planting instructions to ensure a successful start for the daffodil bulbs.
The bulbs, sourced from Holland through a Maine distributor, will be available for pickup by community members on Saturday, October 19, from 10 AM to 2 PM at Clark Historical Park. Members will deliver gift bags directly to residents' cars.
Club president Deborah Long-Smith emphasized the timely nature of this initiative, stating, “The glorious colors of October in New Hampshire remind us that winter is coming. These beautiful days are ideal for planting spring bulbs, which symbolize hope for brighter days ahead. In the spring, a sea of iconic yellow daffodils will herald the end of winter in our town.”
Martie Lincoln, Chair of the Beautification Commitee, added, “Daffodils are
deer-resistant and thrive in sunny spots with good drainage.”
Vice President Bobbie Stave remarked, “This is our gift to the residents of our community, and by planting these free bulbs, residents contribute their gift back to the community."
We are excited to announce a series of three seasonal hands-on workshops focused on decorative floral arrangements. These workshops are designed to inspire and engage participants through creative, seasonal themes.
The inaugural workshop, “Fall Tablescapes,” was presented by club member and volunteer instructor Nancy Combs. Nancy, known for her talent in crafting stunning tablescapess guided participants through the process of designing beautiful fall-themed arrangements.
Wolfeboro Garden Club will host more workshops in the future with themes and dates to be announced in the coming months. These future events will continue to explore the art of floral design, offering participants opportunities to create seasonal arrangements that reflect the beauty of winter and spring.
Kicking off the Wolfeboro Garden Club’s 2024-25 meeting and program season on September 10th, was Debra Dellanina-Alvarez. Debra is a lifelong-gardener, healthcare provider, program designer, and speaker. In 2019, Debra founded Saved by the Garden and utlizes her past experiences and knowledge to provide insightful programming regarding noteworthy garden spaces, features, exhibits, and elements that promote health and wellness.
Inspired by personal life-changing events, Debra's program took us on a virtual tour of three gardens. Gently woven into the presentation were remarkable health and wellness benefits that each garden offers.
Wonderful refreshments were served on a fall-themed table. The hospitality group outdid itself.
"Back Yard Serenity" was the theme for this year's parade float. Pictured are Nancy Saltmarsh, Bobbie Stave, and Joyce Lake.
