Founded in 1932, by Miss Laura Matoon, Mrs. Robert Thurrell, Mrs. Wentworth Prescott, Mrs. LeRoy Haven and Miss Mildred Jenkinson, the Wolfeboro Garden Club today has over 120 members. We remain true to the mission set by our founders: “To encourage an active interest in conservation, and to further the knowledge of beautifying town and home, as well as to increase, through gardening, the Joy of Life.”
From September to June, on the second Tuesday of the month, members gather for educational presentations by guest speakers, demonstrations and workshops–all while enjoying the companionship and camaraderie of fellow gardening enthusiasts. During the summer, members give generously of their time and talent to keep Wolfeboro beautiful by planting and maintaining eleven gardens throughout the town. We are proud to present scholarships to local students pursuing studies in environmental sciences and related fields. Funds for the gardens and scholarships are raised by selling fragrant balsam wreaths bedecked with hand-tied bows to local businesses, shops and residents.
